What is a blog? Everyone should know by now, but just in case: A blog is short for Web Log. Just think that if the internet gives a voice to everyone, a blog is the podium they stand on to deliver their message. It is usually a dated list, like a diary, and displayed by date, most recent on top. What is RSS? Well, this one is still a bit new for most people so don't feel embarrassed if you don't know about this one. RSS stands for Really Siimple Syndication. It's basically a format that helps to distribute web content that changes frequently. (such as blogs) Instead of visiting multiple web sites to see if there is any new news, you can now check in one place to scan all the headlines from your favorite sites to see if there is anything new. This can be done in many ways. You can have a RSS Reader (called an aggregator) on your computer, or you can use a web based reader which are mostly free, or the method that's probably the easiest for most people is to use their MyYahoo homepage. If you already are using MyYahoo, then most of the news you see on there is from RSS feeds. All you need to do for any of these is find the news that you like and then add their news feed to your reader. Now whenever there's something new, your reader will instantly know about it, and you are informed. No more spending hours checking dozens of sites for the possibility of something new. |
